about

Like all things cosmic, Mog Stunt Team began with a bang as they exploded onto the Detroit rock landscape in mid 1990s. Known for their inventive and chaotic live shows involving pyrotechnics, terrifying homemade instruments, and onstage Kaiju fights, Mog quickly became a live favorite in the pre-Garage Rock Detroit scene. After a self-released album, the band quickly caught the attention of storied aggro-punk label Amphetamine Reptile, who released their second album in ‘97.

While blowing minds on stage was the band’s primary focus, they caught a wave of pre-internet vitality when their other passion came to national attention: Outing Entertainment Tonight host and New Age musician John Tesh as an alien. Mog and their supporters did all they could to expose Tesh as the intergalactic alien menace he appeared to be. Was this a high-minded, culture-jamming prank? Or was there truth in their accusations about this interplanetary alien menace? What happened next leaves that question even more open to debate.

After a tour supporting their label debut, Mog Stunt Team was never heard from again. Based on the information contained on a recently unearthed VHS tape, it would appear that the band has completely disappeared. Or worse. To call the events surrounding the tour “strange” would be the grandest of understatements. Eyewitness accounts, staggering time capsule live footage, and Buzz Osbourne of The Melvins are all contained in the documentary available for viewing right here on this bandcamp page!

Named after the documentary, I’m Going To Do It Until The Day I Die is a blistering sonic overview of the power of Mog Stunt Team. Few bands provide a better example of post-grunge American rock than Mog. As comfortable with aggressive, hook-laden anthems as they are with sonically challenging experimental noise, Mog rockets the listener on a wild ride full of UFO conspiracies, Fortean paranoia, and the uncut adrenaline of pure, life-affirming rock.

Prepare yourself for a journey that starts with a mystery and ends with a conclusion you may not believe.

Compilation purchase includes a digital reproduction of The Alarm newspaper exposing the alien menace of John Tesh.
